Overview
KoalaParty creates shared YouTube rooms where everyone can watch together, control playback, add videos, reorder the queue, vote, and reconnect without losing the room. Unlisted rooms work without an account, while optional accounts add persistent rooms, invitations, friends, and cross-device access. The self-hostable Go and SvelteKit application uses WebSockets and SQLite, with no ads, analytics, tracking pixels, or browser fingerprinting.
Backstory
KoalaParty grew from the need for a permanent, privacy-first alternative to temporary watch-party links. The goal was to make shared YouTube viewing feel like a dependable digital living room, with synchronized playback and a collaborative queue while keeping unlisted rooms usable without accounts.
